PICTURE FRIDAY: BIGGS HANNIBAL?

You've seen the commercials about people who look (or wish they looked!) like famous movie stars.

Well, Biggs is getting into the act.   See below.  What do you think?  Can Biggs make it big in Hollywood?

WE HEAR A SYMPHONY

Biggs and I had our morning constitutional a while ago.  5:00am is still quite dark outside but there are plenty of street lamps to light our way.

We don’t usually run into many – if any – people on our morning walks but we certainly “run into” birds.  They are everywhere now that Spring is in the air, and man, can they “talk.”

Biggs and I don’t know if they are talking, gossiping or signing.  Who knows?  Maybe all three, and it might be about us and how we mark the beginning of their day.  Whatever they are jabbering about, Biggs and I like it.  It’s like a symphony of sounds, a cascade of music – and a great way to start the morning.  Happy Monday!

PICTURE FRIDAY: NEW AND OLD

Biggs got a new bed.  It's soft and comfortable, and we are very much hoping he doesn't eat it.  :-)

THE SISTAH

Here's a picture of Biggs' Sistah from another Motha, EMME JAY.

Isn't she a cutey?  She thinks she goes in the Easter basket!

 THE ROOM MATES

People have been asking about Luna and Oreo.
Here are their Before and After pictures of their Summer hair cut.
Before with their glorious locks

After in all their "naked" glory

Happy Friday.
Happy Easter.

APPLE SAUCE FOR ME

Biggs is down to two pills a day now, but still you gotta get him to "eat" them.

We were giving him pills with cream cheese for a while, then switched to peanut butter when that ran out.  Now that we are down on the peanut butter, we are back to cream cheese.

I tried to discover which he preferred, but really, he licks his lips for both.  Guess he is not picky.

As for me, I like to wash my pills down with apple sauce.  This way there is no after taste.

I wonder if Biggs thinks the same about the cream cheese or the peanut butter.

NO, WE DON'T WANT TO BE FRIENDS!

Biggs and I were out for a late night walk.  It was about 11:30pm and no one should have been outside.  Should have, being the operative words.  We took the elevator down to the basement for the service exits and there are two people trying to get on before we got off.  Biggs' loud bark had them backing off real fast.

We exit and Biggy does his business.  I figure to cross the street for the nearest garbage can, but that plan is nixed when I spy a guy walking his big dog.  I'm not sure of the breed; maybe a huge golden retriever?  Anyway, we don't cross and I'm walking Biggs down the sidewalk when Lorathio decides to cross to our side and make friends.

Are you crazy?, I asked.  Hanging on for dear life with a squirming and barking 90 pound dog.

Doesn't he like other dogs? he countered.

No, I shouted at both the moron and at Biggs, who was still pulling and struggling to get to the other dog.  I tightened my two-fisted grip.

You can't control him?, the moron asked.

Well, Duh!

Moron took his friendly overtures and golden dog back across the street.

Biggs tried to get to the other side of the street but I pulled and said no, and heel.  Luckily, he calmed down and we were able to continue our walk.  Although, I cut it short to be on the safe side.

Note to Moron trying to make friends, don't.

THE MOST IMPORTANT WORDS IN DOG TRAINING

The four most important words in Dog Training are:

Sit.
Heel.
No.
Good.

SIT.  You want the dog to sit so you can both prepare – ie put on his collar and leash.  You also want him to sit as you wait to get off the elevator or cross the street or wait his turn in the dog parade.

HEEL.  You want the dog to move, to follow you.  If you say this word often enough, you won’t need to nudge him or pull him in the right direction.  He’ll know this means “walk this way” and he will.

NO.   This one word you can’t say often enough.  You must correct him.  You want him to learn what is right and wrong; what he can’t and can’t do.  This is for his and your protection.

GOOD.   Also, you want to praise your dog whenever he does something right.  “Good sit.”   “Good heel.”   This will let him know he is doing his job and you are proud of him. Treats are optional, and if you do reward him, don’t over do it.  You don’t want him getting fat.

RELEASE WORD.   This is the fifth most important word in dog training, but it is a personal one; personalized for each dog.  Your release word let’s your dog know that school is out and he can play.  It can be whatever word you want, but pick one that you don’t say too often.  For example, ours is “Free”.   We say “free” and Biggs knows that he can romp around, jump, play, et al.  You don’t want to pick the word “okay” for example, as it is used pretty frequent by all and you don’t want to confuse the dog as to when his play time is.

Many thanks to our friends Joe and Mike at the ABCs of Dog Training for their many lessons.  We are enjoying the free Saturday dog training classes, and we are practicing what they preach.

Good trainees.
